Neelkantheshwara Temple - Bhubaneswar

 Neelkantheshwara Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha state of India. The temple is located on the west bank of Bindusagar Talab.

It is located to the left of the lane branching from the road leading from Kedar Gauri Chowk to Vaital Devla. The temple is surrounded by the Bindusagar tank on its east, private residential buildings on the west, Hadisahi on the south, and the Baital Temple on its south. The temple has many public owners.

History

The present temple is a recent construction on the remains of an earlier temple. The original temple was constructed during the Somvanshi kings in the 10th century on the basis of the symbolic features of the playback deity

About Temple


Neelkantheshwara Temple

It is a former Mukhi temple. The present temple is a recent construction on the remains of an earlier temple. The building material is old, but the entire structure now has cement plaster and an enamel point. The presiding deity is called Neelkantheshwar.

He is placed in the sanctum sanctorum inside a circular vaginipath in the form of a lingam. The temple is made of sandstone. The temple has a square vimana and a frontal porch on the plan. The vimana pieda belongs to Deula. There is a triratna on the Vimana plan and the Tribhanga in height.

There is a concrete structure, in front of the sanctum sanctorum in the eastern wall acts as Jagamohan. The lintel has a gajalakshmi panel. She is sitting in Lalitasana. The deity has four arms, a lotus in his left hand, and Varadamudra in his right hand.

An image of a four-armed Ganesha is seen in the Dakshina Raha Ala houses who sit on a lotus back, standing in the Tribhangi. The image is in the upper right hand holding Nagapasa and the lower right hand is in Varadamudra. The other two hands are broken.

About Neelkantheshwara Temple - Bhubaneswar

Western Raha Ala houses have the image of a four-armed Kartikeya holding a damru (cattle drum) in his lower left hand and a rooster in his upper left hand which is near a female attendant. The upper right hand of the deity rests on the beak of his peacock. The lower right hand is broken. The statue stands on the lotus.

The northern Raha Ala bears the image of his four-armed Parvati holding a conch in his right left hand, a Nagapasa in the lower right hand, and Baranda in the upper right hand. There is a mace in the upper left hand. The eastern part of the temple displays four mitten, separate statues that are not clearly identifiable.

Sankranti and Shivaratri are festivals celebrated with great pomp here. The rituals of Shraddha, Rudrabhishek, Mangal, Vivah, and thread rituals are celebrated here.

This temple is about 700 meters from Lingaraj Temple, 1 kilometer from Kedar Gauri Mandir bus stop, 3 kilometers from Lingaraj Mandir Road railway station, 3 kilometers from Bhubaneswar Airport, 4 kilometers from Bhubaneswar Railway Station, from Baramunda Bus Stand 8 kilometers away.

Bhubaneswar is 19 km from New Railway Station, 30 km from Cuttack, and 54 km from Puri. The temple is located on the west bank of Bindusagar Talab. It is located to the left of the lane branching from the road leading from Kedar Gauri Chowk to Vaital Devla. Bhubaneswar is well connected to the rest of India by train, air, and land.

By Road Neelkantheshwara Temple - Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar is connected to the rest of Odisha and India by National Highway-NH 16, NH 203, State Highway 13 (Odisha), and State Highway 27 (Odisha). Asian Highway - AH 45 passes through the city.

Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is the major bus terminus of the city from where the bus runs to all the districts of Odisha as well as to the neighboring state cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Raipur, and Ranchi.

City bus service (MO bus) operates in Bhubaneswar by the Capital Region Urban Transport Authority operated by Bhubaneswar Development Authority.

Nowadays popular online cab or auto transport systems are provided by Jugnu, Ola, Uber. Auto rickshaws are available for rent and share throughout the city. In some parts of the city, bicycle rickshaws offer shorter trips. In addition, CRUT has recently launched M Cycle, a public bicycle sharing platform to curb traffic, reduce pollution in the city, and provide last-mile connectivity in the city.

Rail Network:

Bhubaneswar railway station is one of the major stations in the Indian railway network. It is connected to major cities by daily express and passenger trains and daily service is available to all metro cities from here.

By air:

Biju Patnaik International Airport, also known as Bhubaneswar Airport, is located to the south of the city center, it is Odisha's premier and only International airport. There are daily domestic flights from Bhubaneswar to Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, and Bangalore. There are international flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok, Dubai, and Kuala Lumpur three times a week.
