One of the prominent wildlife sanctuaries in Odisha is the Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary. Located in the Kendrapara district, it is renowned for its mangrove forests and diverse flora and fauna. Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is a Ramsar site and also a part of the Bhitarkanika National Park.
The sanctuary covers an area of approximately 672 square kilometers, including mangrove forests, rivers, creeks, and estuaries. It is home to various species of wildlife, including saltwater crocodiles, Indian pythons, king cobras, water monitors, deer, wild boars, and a wide variety of bird species.
